COBATI's Founder Maria Baryamujura was recognized among the “Ugandans Making a Difference” and received an award of recognition from the New vision for outstanding contribution to improving the lives of others for a better Uganda. The award was presented on 9TH June 2008, a day reserved for Heroes in Uganda.

The objectives of COBATI are advocating for equal share of tourism benefits with local people, fundraising within and outside Uganda, communicating the work, potential and achievements of local communities participating in rural tourism in African and providing technical assistance to participating individuals and communities.
To promote and enhance the capacity of rural communities around natural, cultural and tourist circuits in Uganda to participate and benefit from tourism related enterprises.
To empower communities to participate in community based tourism activities and operate as host communities so as to improve livelihoods and social security in Uganda.
Founded in 1998 COBATI is a non-for profit organization seeking to empower rural based people and their communities to utilize tourism as a means to improving their economic livelihoods.
COBATI is a pioneer endeavor focusing on sustainable economic development through community mobilization, people empowerment and encouraging participation in new entrepreneurial activities that utilize local people, their hospitality tradition, culture and unique rural landscape
